what is stigmergy?
Stigmergy (STIG-mər-jee) is a mechanism of indirect coordination, through the environment, between agents or actions (source: Wikipedia). Ants building their colonies... birds swarming in beautiful, unintentional patterns... these are examples of stigmergy at work. Several years ago, we began exploring ideas about how the principle of stigmergy might be a useful organizing concept for businesses, and started studying management philosophies that contained approaches consistent with this idea. The result has been the ongoing development of a stigmergy-centered business management framework. At Orange Zipper, we continue to develop that framework and encourage its application inside the companies in which we invest and advise.
